Hollywood’s elite will be presented with NFTs in honour of the next awards presentation.

A piece honouring the late actor Chadwick Boseman is included in the digital art, and the money from the sale will go to the Colon Cancer Foundation.

A project will give away nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, to 25 nominees for acting, directing, and supporting roles in feature films.

25 of the 115 nominees for this year’s Academy Awards will get three nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, in unofficial gift bags, according to Nomine(eth), a project created in collaboration with online marketplace Rarible, Metaversal, and AdVenture Media. Hollywood insiders who are nominated for best actor, best actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, and best director will receive NFTs from the production.

The names of those nominated in each category will be printed on each digital piece created by artists including Jon Noorlander, Shaylin Wallace, and Rocco DiSpirito, among others. Each category’s winner will also get an additional NFT that will be up for auction on Rare.com. Apparently, a charity of their choice will receive all or part of the revenues. The project will include a ticket in each bag allowing nominees to claim their gift using a Portis wallet because NFTs do not exist in the real world.

According to Yossi Hasson, co-curator of the initiative, “the aim to include NFTs in the gift bags was to demonstrate what can be done with NFTs, increase awareness for the charity causes that we support, and pay honour to the remarkable achievement that these nominees have made.” They are being invited to “co-own that moment” alongside some of the most inspiring digital artists and the people who buy their creations.

One of the NFTs is a tribute to renowned actor Chadwick Boseman, well known for his role as King T’Challa in the 2018 film Black Panther, made by 3D animator Andre O’Shea. Boseman was nominated this year despite passing away in August from colon cancer due to his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. The Colon Cancer Foundation will receive the revenues from this NFT auction.

According to some analysts, the Hollywood film business ought to transition to the blockchain. By decentralising control within the industry, this would enable fresh artists to forego the conventional “exclusive” route for projects. As the cryptocurrency business grows more well-known, a number of film and television projects have emerged. One such project is a 10-part crypto-comedy series that is anticipated to begin production later this year.

Please be aware that neither the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences nor the Oscars are in any way directly connected to the gift bags described above.
